In each of these 6-session small groups, middle school students will strengthen their nonfiction writing skills through focused, supportive instruction and weekly practice. Students will explore and develop writing across several key nonfiction formats, including:
Informational Articles
Personal Essays
Persuasive/Opinion Pieces
How-To or Procedural Writing
Each 1-hour in-person session (with 3–6 students) will include mini-lessons, peer discussion, and individualized guidance from the group leader. Students will be taught strategies such as organizing ideas clearly, writing with voice and purpose, supporting claims with evidence, and revising for clarity and structure.
Homework is mandatory after each session to reinforce skills and build writing stamina. Assignments will be reviewed at the next meeting, with feedback provided to guide ongoing growth.
Ideal for students who want to become more confident nonfiction writers, whether for school success or personal expression.
