Portrait and Figure Sketching
Materials Fee: $0
Supplies Needed: Students will need to purchase a drawing kit and Sketch Pad. Mr. Marquez will have some to sell or you may purchase them online.
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of portrait and figure sketching, focusing on capturing human anatomy, expressions, and movement with accuracy and artistic style. Students will learn essential techniques such as foreshortening, two-point perspective, shading, and shadowing to bring their drawings to life.
Through guided exercises, students will explore composition principles, including balance, proportion (Golden Ratio), contrast, and rhythm, to create dynamic and visually compelling sketches. Additional topics include inking techniques, drawing drapery and clothing, and preparing artwork for presentation.
The course will culminate in a final project where students develop a completed figure or portrait sketch from start to finish. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a group project and an art exhibition, showcasing their work to the school community.
