Materials Fee: $70 

Supplies Needed: Students will have a list of used items to bring in each 8 weeks. The first 8 weeks, students will need:  

3-4 old pair of jeans 

3 old thick books 

Begin saving metal lids of bottles (beer and soda bottles) 

Any way you slice it, this class teaches students to look at items in a new light. Up cycling pushes the boundaries of conventional art by forcing the artist to infuse artistic value on items that would normally contribute to environmental pollution. It is an eco friendly class designed to reduce the amount of trash that ends up in our landfills by creating something new out of materials normally deemed unworthy. 

Throughout the year, students will complete awesome projects using independent imagination and found pieces of trash. Including these projects and many more…. 

1. Hot pads out of denim 

2. Beautiful Tie backs for curtains out of toilet tissue rolls - yes, toilet tissue cardboard rolls 

3. Create a hide-a-key container out of pill bottle and a yard rock 

4. Changing an old frame into a denim wrapped delight 

Periodically, students will be given a list of needed items. The list will include general trash, used or outgrown items such as prescription bottles and lids, coffee cans, old jeans, old tshirts, toilet tissue rolls, paper towel tubes, old pillow cases, empty glass jars, old crayons, wine bottles, wooden pallets and so on. Each item will need to be cleaned before bringing them to class 

Students will learn to follow their own imagination while working on several charitable projects where we donate the items we make to local organizations.
