Supplies List: Books will need to be purchased and brought to class. Also needed, a Notebook, Pen/pen.  

It is a truth universally acknowledged that minds thirsting for knowledge must be in want of enhancing their literature skills. We will explore the influence society has on individual perspectives through Pride and Prejudice, the dazzling riches in The Great Gatsby, thought-provoking themes in Frankenstein, the power of figurative language in Of Mice and Men, challenging messages in Fahrenheit 451, the timeless life lessons in The Scarlet Letter, and finally, the power of Shakespeare in Julius Caesar. There will be many opportunities to interact with the text through fun activities, including role-play, escape rooms, games, parties, and more! We will annotate our books to help us craft gripping socratic seminar questions to critically analyze the books we are reading and respectfully discuss our views. There will be six MLA formatted essays to help you strengthen your writing and reading skills. By the end of the year, you will be a master! Please note that the books listed in this description will have to be acquired prior to the time the syllabus says we will begin reading them. The book(s) and a digital device (laptop, phone, etc.) will have to be brought to class. There is a $3 materials fee for some of the activities. We may watch movies based on the books we read for class, and the books we read may contain content warnings.
